Aofáine graduated from Trinity College Dublin. Following graduation Aofaine worked in the HSE in Dublin and Galway before travelling to the USA for work experience and further education. Aofaine passed the Massachusetts state physical therapy exams to become a registered PT. She worked in Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge (Mass), a Harvard University teaching hospital. She worked in all areas of physiotherapy before specialising in spine, orthopaedics and sports medicine. Further post graduate studies were undertaken in Boston University and the Graduate Institute of Physical Therapy Florida towards a Master’s in physiotherapy.
On returning to Ireland she founded her practice in Galway city and in her native Carraroe, Co. Galway in 1992.
Aofaine gained further qualifications in biomechanics in 1995 and now has 20 years experience in biomechanical evaluation and orthotic prescription.
She graduated with distinction in 1997 following completion of a 2 year course with a licentiate in medical acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine from the college of Medical Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She incorporates dry needling and acupuncture in to her physiotherapy treatments. Aofaine has multiple certificates in all areas of spine/ musculoskeletal/sports medicine.
Aofaine is a certified vestibular therapist (2014). This unique qualification certifies her to treat vertigo and concussion ( vestibular therapy).
Aofáine has recently (Oct 2014) been reappointed as lead physiotherapist with Galway Senior Football team. Aofaine was the physiotherapist with the Galway senior football team from 1997-2009. She helped them win 7 Connacht titles and 2 All Ireland titles (1998 ,2001). She was also lead physiotherapist with the Galway football U21 teams that won all Ireland titles (2002, 2005). She was the Connacht football team /Railway Cup physiotherapist from 2003 -2009.
Over the years Aofaine has provided chartered sports physiotherapy services to many clubs in Co. Galway including Carraroe, Barna, Carna, Clonbur, Spiddal and Barna –Furbo hurling. She has also worked with the Galway FA, Galway United and Salthill Devon soccer teams.
